Chris Monti is a musician, writer, bandleader and educator. I write songs that show my love for all sorts of music, from Afro-pop to rock, from country-blues to calypso. I sing and play acoustic and electric guitar and harmonica. And a bit of banjo, bass and ukulele. I've cranked giant hurdy-gurdys for operas, played Terry Riley's "In C", trained pretty heavily in west african style guitar, dug deep into country-blues and old-time music, picked up bits of style from Egypt , The Americas and India, picked the brain of every great musician I can get my hands on, and have been making a living as a musician in New England for over fifteen years. The Chris Monti Band plays my danceable original songs as well as some great international dance music. The Devilfish is a dance band that plays covers of great surf, rock, mambo, cumbia, blues and boogie songs. I've performed with The Puppet Showplace Theater and Big Nazo, and I have a program of children's music and sing-alongs that I perform at schools, libraries and other community events.
