Explore the intersection of nature and needlework. In this focused workshop, artist Molly Smith guides you through the creation of a "Specimen Sampler"—a collection of intricate insects brought to life through thread.
From the iridescence of a beetle’s shell to the delicate veins of a wing, you’ll learn how to translate biological textures into textile art. This class is designed for beginners and enthusiasts alike, offering a calm environment to master foundational and decorative stitches.
What’s Provided:
A 6" to 8" embroidery hoop
An original "Insect Study" design on templated fabric
Examples of Molly’s professional work for reference
What You’ll Master:
Setup: Preparing your hoop and choosing the right thread weights.
The Essentials: Running, back, and split stitches for clean outlines.
Texture & Volume: Using the Satin Stitch for beautiful fill and the French Knot, Lazy Daisy, and Chain Stitch for dimension and details.
Additional info:
Independent sewers welcome, or young novices (8+) with a participating adult
Skill level: All levels welcome! We can start with threading a needle and work up to covering some more complex stitches for the more advanced students.
