We’re setting the mood with local film, Nowhere Coast . Written and directed by Michael Ahern. Featuring local actors Brandon Perras-Sanchez and Michael Rigney. A man visits his ex-lover, who is allegedly suffering from symptoms of early-onset dementia.
Then onto our Feature film, The Hitch-Hiker - Directed by Ida Lupino (notable as the only classic film noir directed by a woman). Based on the true-life murder spree of Billy Cook, it follows two friends (Edmond O'Brien and Frank Lovejoy) who pick up a psychotic drifter (William Talman) during a fishing trip in Mexico. He holds them hostage in their own car, forcing them to drive toward the coast while terrorizing them with a sinister eye affliction—one of his eyes remains open even when he sleeps.
Behind the Scenes: Ida Lupino actually visited the real-life killer, Billy Cook, in San Quentin State Prison to interview him before making the film, ensuring the terrifying "open-eye" detail and Myers' unhinged persona remained chillingly accurate to the true crime spree.
