Jennifer Hrabota Lesser is a figurative painter based in Providence, RI. Originally from Northern Indiana, she attended the Rhode Island School of Design and fell in love with the quirky beauty of Providence. She is heavily influenced by myth and folklore, especially how tales adapt and evolve to the needs of the times. Although she is heavily influenced by the works of John Everett Millais and William Holman Hunt, her interpretation of myth takes on a feminine perspective, sometimes heralding traditional villains as heroes and casting heroes as villains. Like the modern tale of Circe by Madeline Miller, her work celebrates the witches and wild women within these stories; they explore the edges of the feminine ideal- painful, lovely, creative, and destructive and seek a new feminine mythos.
