My name is Olivia Kelly, and creating artwork has been a hobby of mine since I was nine years old. Throughout the course of my time at La Salle Academy, I feel that the messages and techniques used in my pieces have grown exponentially as I have continuously worked on achieving dynamic perspectives in my work. Specifically, my work focuses on consumerism and my addiction to technology and all forms of media, something that I chose to focus on since the media continues to influence me in my daily life. To convey this message through my artwork, I decided that it would be best to showcase my inner consumer by depicting the vast amount of products I have purchased that are tied to well-known brands. This is something that I show in one of my pieces titled “My Room,” in which I took reference from a shelf in my bedroom that has products from brands such as Nintendo, San-X, Disney, and Pokemon on it. These are the brands that have also shaped me as an artist since I have taken inspiration from Pokemon as well as Nintendo games to build upon and create a distinctive art style. That’s the main reason as to why many of my pieces are extremely colorful and bright as all of my interests and passions in my life have helped me to discover who I am as an artist.

As I envision the future, I see myself as becoming an even stronger artist as I plan to continue making art for many years to come. The passion that I have for this hobby has turned into something much greater as I plan to incorporate art into my daily life as I begin to head into college, my major being in elementary education. I believe that I have the ability to create a fun environment for children to learn through my own love for learning, something that I wouldn’t have realized if I never delved into the world of art. The main reason why my artwork has improved so much has everything to do with what I’ve been taught by others, which is why I want to become a teacher. As a teacher, I plan to incorporate my own artwork in the classroom through lesson plans while continuing to make strides in improving my art in my own life.
