Matt Everett - September Feature Artist
A lifelong dabbler at visual art, I started taking it seriously around 2018. Since then, I’ve been in solo and group exhibits at the Collaborative, AS220, and the Hive RI, and done commission work including pet portraits, posters, album covers, and a journal cover design for the Caliber Artist Series (available for purchase at CVS).
My pictures usually start with a problem or question I’m trying to address (e.g., how big is a bobcat’s nose?), and then veer sideways. I’m heavily influenced by fairy tale and cartoon illustrators, especially Ivan Bilibin and Winsor McCay.
When not drawing I do music stuff: Solo recordings are available via Bandcamp and 75orLess Records, and I play fiddle, accordion, and tin whistle with sea shanty band Sharks Come Cruisin (we’ll be at Imago Gallery in Warren on September 28!).
Katie Khan- July Feature Artist
Katie Khan received her bachelor’s degree in Art (and English) from Hillsdale College in 2018. After graduation she lived in the Republic of Georgia for a year, teaching English and sketching profusely. Back in the States, she worked as an on-staff illustrator for a curriculum company, then switched to freelance art and writing following the birth of her first child. She has published a number of short stories, and her art has been in several shows at the Rhode Island Watercolor Society. She currently lives in East Providence, RI, with her husband and two children. She works in watercolor, gouache, and pen, and loves to find the overlooked wonder of ordinary things. You can find more of her work on Instagram @katie.j.khan, or at kjkhanart.com.
